California health system uses philanthropists' gifts to launch innovation fund

Mountain View, Calif.-based El Camino Health is using a donation from philanthropists Pamela and Edward Taft to launch a fund dedicated to healthcare technology innovation.

The health system is already moving forward with eight innovation projects focusing on the use of technology to improve the patient experience, coordinate care and improve clinical outcomes. The projects are expected to be completed over the next 18 months, with new projects launched on an ongoing basis, according to a June 20 El Camino Health news release.

The fund will target innovations in wearables, smart devices, mobile communication, artificial intelligence and virtual reality,

Mr. and Ms. Taft have financially supported El Camino for more than 20 years.
