A new artificial intelligence tool is showing promise in accurately assessing the condition of people's stool.
A smartphone app that analyzed digital images of stool was found to be just as accurate as two gastroenterologists in characterizing it as normal, constipated or diarrhea, and more so than the subjects' self-reported evaluations, researchers with Cedars-Sinai and Dieta Health found.
The March 14 study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology noted that "AI assessments could provide more objective outcome measures for stool characterization in gastroenterology."
