As the deadline for ICD-10 conversion draws closer, healthcare providers, payers and others are buckling down to train staff members, conduct testing and prepare for a successful transition to the new system.

1. 5 Tips for a Successful ICD-10 Transition for Physician Practices
A certified coding specialist and AHIMA-approved ICD-10 trainer hosted a March 13 CMS webinar titled "ICD-10 Overview: Basics and Transition Tips" and offered five tips for physicians practices to make the transition to ICD-10 smoother.
2. 3 Best Practices for Getting Physicians on Board With ICD-10 Implementation
Based on his experience helping providers prepare for the switch to ICD-10 this October, Terrance Govender, MD, director of healthcare at Navigant Consulting, offered three tips for getting physicians engaged in efforts related to the transition.
3. CMS: End-to-End ICD-10 Testing to Take Place in July
CMS announced end-to-end testing for ICD-10 will take place July 21-25. The testing will allow providers to submit ICD-10 test claims to CMS and receive a Remittance Advice notice that explains the adjudication of the claims.
4. Fitch: ICD-10 Could Hurt Nonprofit Hospitals' Credit Ratings
Revenue stream disruption caused by the ICD-10 conversion has the potential to negatively affect some nonprofit hospitals' credit ratings, according to a report from Fitch Ratings.
5. Survey: Major Private Payers Ready for ICD-10
UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield and Humana, four of the country's largest private payers, will be ready for the ICD-10 transition come Oct. 1, according to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
