Unions representing service, maintenance, clerical and technical workers at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., have ratified new labor agreements, according to a New Haven Register report.
UNITE HERE Locals 35 and 34, which represent the workers, ratified the agreements Wednesday. Union members approved a five-year contract for 1,400 service and maintenance workers belonging to Local 35 and 3,600 clerical and technical workers in Local 34, according to the report.
Yale said the new contracts include average wage increases of 2.5 percent per year; changes to healthcare plans "that will slow the rate of growth of Yale's medical expense"; a retirement incentive for employees age 62 and older with at least 25 years of service; and a "breakthrough new clinical agreement with Local 34 that enhances job security for clinical members, clarifies the boundaries between university jobs and those of Yale-New Haven Hospital staff, and which will enable higher standards of patient care," reports the New Haven Register.
The new contracts come after months of negotiations and are set to expire January 2022, according to the report.
