The Texas Hospital Association said in a news release it estimates Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath affected as many as 75,000 hospital employees.
As the storm wreaked havoc on the state's coast, numerous hospital employees experienced property loss or damage. THA established an assistance fund to help these employees last month. In the beginning of September, THA announced it allotted $1 million toward that effort.
Now, THA said it is urging Texas hospital community members to contribute.
"The effects from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey will be with us long after the water recedes and the media spotlight fades away," said Ted Shaw, THA president and CEO. "But, our support for the thousands of dedicated Texas hospital employees who selflessly cared for the sick, elderly and vulnerable under truly challenging conditions will remain steadfast."
