Nurses and emergency medical service workers protested at Stony Brook (N.Y.) University Hospital May 16 over wages, reports Newsday.
The workers, who were joined by union leaders with the New York State Public Employees Federation, claim the hospital's wages are lower than neighboring facilities, according to the report. They also have expressed concern about the effects they say the pay gap has, including low retention rates for new nurses.
In response to the protest, a hospital spokesperson told Newsday, "Stony Brook University Hospital is supportive of our nurses, EMTs and paramedics. We work every day to foster a positive work environment where all employees are valued and respected."
