The union representing nurses at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, Calif., has reached a tentative agreement with the hospital for the nurses' first-ever contract, according to a Vallejo Times-Herald report.
The California Nurses Association and hospital reached the three-year tentative agreement Monday. It includes safe staffing provisions, such as staffing according to severity of patients' condition, as well as establishment of a professional practice committee of elected bedside nurses to track staffing, according to the report.
The agreement also includes guaranteed meal and rest breaks, across-the board wage increases and a new wage scale that will result in an overall average increase of 25 percent over the duration of the agreement.
In addition to the Queen of the Valley agreement, the California Nurses Association also reached a first-time tentative agreement with Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna, Calif., along with new agreements with St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, Calif., and St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, Calif., according to the union.
