New maintenance, food and nutrition services jobs are expected at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy, N.C., after the organization decided not to renew its three-year contract with Philadelphia-based Aramark Healthcare Support Services, according to a Triad Business Journal report.
The hospital plans to provide its own maintenance, food and nutrition services by adding 85 jobs.
The decision comes after Aramark notified state officials that it planned to lay off 69 workers and close its operations at Northern Hospital, according to the report. Those jobs include 27 cleaning service workers, two dietitians, two cooks, six laundry attendants, 11 food service workers, three HVAC maintenance workers, an electrician, a cashier, an administrative assistant and a lead housekeeper.
But Ashly Lancaster, marketing director for the hospital, told the Triad Business Journal this week Aramark workers can apply for the added jobs.
She added that the organization will likely extend those job offers in the next two weeks.
