U.S. companies are increasingly encouraging employees to take time off for their mental health, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Here are three things to know.
1. The National Alliance on Mental Illness estimates 20 percent of Americans, or one in 5, have a mental health condition.
2. Some companies, such as Ernst & Young, American Express Co. and Prudential Financial, are offering programs to help employees with mental health conditions, according to the report. Programs aim to destigmatize mental illness and ensure employees receive needed time off to address mental and emotional issues they may have.
3.Companies offer a wide range of programs. The program offered by EY, for instance, "encourages workers to check in with each other and offer support to those who might be struggling," while the program offered by Prudential Financial "gives employees flexible work arrangements and access to mental-health professionals," reports WSJ.
