Physicians and other medical staff at Baltimore-based Chase Brexton Health Care will vote Thursday on whether to join the 1199 Service Employees International Union United Healthcare Workers East, reports The Baltimore Sun.
About 140 workers are slated to participate in the election, according to the article.
The vote comes amid a labor dispute between the union and Chase Brexton. Earlier this week, the Chase Brexton board asked the National Labor Relations Board to postpone the unionization vote and accused some of its managers of illegally encouraging formation of the union with the help of union leaders, according to the article. SEIU has also filed a complaint with the NLRB, alleging that Chase Brexton terminated five managers to scare employees contemplating unionization, the report states.
Chase Brexton employees have said becoming part of the union will give them more sway with management and more say in the decision-making that affects their workplace, reports The Baltimore Sun.
