Sunnyside, Wash.-based Astria Health nurses and healthcare workers picketed Nov. 20 in front of Astria Regional Medical Center in Yakima, Wash., amid contract negotiations, according to a KIMA report.
The workers said they need better pay and the hospital needs increased staffing, according to the report. They argue inadequate staffing leads to long wait times in the hospital, and better pay will help with employee retention.
The picketing comes as hospital officials and the employees' union have been in negotiations for months.
Astria Health told KIMA: "Astria Regional Medical center respects our employees' right to communicate their position in our ongoing negotiations ... We will continue to bargain in good faith."
