WakeMed Health & Hospitals in Raleigh, N.C., is laying off more than 100 employees, mostly through closing a nursing home in Fuquay-Varina, N.C., according to a News Observer report.
The layoffs will affect clinical and nonclinical employees, including nurses, rehabilitation therapists and food prep workers, according to the report. In addition to the layoffs from the nursing home closure, WakeMed will also cut the jobs of 14 of its staff interpreters as it outsources its interpretation services, according to the News Observer.
All together, WakeMed will lay off 111 employees, according to the report. The system employs about 8,500 people.
The system blamed federal and state policy changes, which resulted in about $15 million in lost revenue so far, as the reason the cuts have to be made, the News Observer reported.
