In an effort to ensure patient safety, Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Health System is requiring all of its employees — even those who work in non-clinical settings — to get flu vaccines, according to the Associated Press.
An email to UMHS employees details the policy, which requires all employees to get the vaccine before Dec. 1. Employees who provide medical or religious documentation to avoid the requirement are exempt, according to MLive.com.
"This policy applies to everyone who works at our health system, including regular and temporary staff, faculty, students, trainees, vendors, contract personnel and volunteers, regardless of clinical responsibility or patient contact," the email said. "This includes medical school employees and those who work in non-clinical settings."
UMHS has had a working flu vaccine policy for five years, which previously applied only to those working in clinical care areas.
