New London, Conn.-based Lawrence + Memorial Hospital's three unions, part of AFT Connecticut, have said the hospital's most recent round of layoffs were unnecessary, according to a report by The Day.
The unions have said the hospital is "putting its profit margin first" instead of patient care, according to the report. Last week, L+M officials pointed to reduced Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements as the reason the layoffs were made.
Of the 33 employees notified of layoffs last week, 11 were union members.
