Registered nurses and respiratory therapists, members of the 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East union, will hold an informational picket Dec. 9 in front of the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center in Yonkers, N.Y.
Here are four things to know about the planned picket.
1. The workers are picketing to protest protracted labor contract negotiations, according to The Journal News. One hundred sixty RNs and RTs became 1199SEIU members in June 2013 and still do not have a contract.
2. The picket is scheduled for 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 9.
3. In the meantime, negotiations are ongoing, and at least two bargaining sessions scheduled before the picket date.
4. Coraminita Mahr, 1199SEIU vice president, said in a news release one of the union's major goals in these negotiations is "to secure the staffing needed to care for our patients."
