The California Nurses Association and the University of California have reached a tentative four-year labor contract agreement, calling off a walkout planned for Wednesday, according to a San Diego 6 News report.
Members of AFSCME Local 3299, representing tens of thousands of support and medical services employees, will still strike Wednesday.
According to a San Francisco Business Times report, the UC system has asked the California labor board to seek a temporary restraining order to limit the number of AFSCME members who can participate in the strike.
The CNA, which represents roughly 11,700 registered nurses at UC medical centers and health clinics, had planned for members to walk off the job in support of the AFSCME strike Wednesday, but those plans have been canceled in light of the contract agreement.
As part of the new CNA contract, nurses will receive 16 percent raises over four years, according to San Diego 6. The contract also maintains a one-tier pension program and does not cut retiree health benefits. Additionally, the deal includes a non-strike provision for the four years the contract is in place.
