Last week, Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, Fla., announced it would cut its workforce by 3 percent, resulting in about 150 layoffs; officials have since said the cuts will be even deeper, according to a Pensacola News Journal report.
In addition to the announced layoffs, the system will cut 125 to 150 already vacant positions and offer early retirement to 25 employees 59 years old or older, according to the report.
The layoffs come as the system faces its first-ever year with financial loss, estimated to be between $4 million and $5 million, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
