Pennsylvania health network Miners Campus workers vote to leave union

Workers at Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's University Health Network's Miners Campus in Coaldale, Pa., decided against continuing union representation.

The workers, represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 112 bargaining unit, voted in favor of decertifying the union Aug. 9. The decision covers 90 full- and part-time Miners Campus employees, including registered nurses, medical laboratory technicians, pharmacists, physical therapists and occupational therapists.

Due to the vote, St. Luke's is able to pay former union employees more, in alignment with the network's other locations, said Wendy Lazo, Miners Campus president. She said St. Luke's also plans to transition former union employees to standard network benefit plans in 2019.
