Members of the United Nurses and Allied Professionals Service and Maintenance Unit at North Providence, R.I.-based Our Lady of Fatima Hospital picketed last week over what they say is "unfair treatment" of employees by the hospital's owner, for-profit Prospect CharterCare, according to a report from The Valley Breeze.
Here are three things to know about the picket.
1. The picket was led by service employees at the hospital. A large number of bedside caregivers also were at the picket. Overall, UNAP represents 655 employees at Our Lady of Fatima.
2. The employees claim Prospect CharterCare has failed to "sit down and negotiate" a "fair and honest contract," according to the report.
3. In response to the picket, Otis Brown, spokesman for Propsect CharterCare, said hospital officials "respect the UNAP's right to conduct informational picketing," according to the report. He added, "We are continuing to negotiate in good faith as we seek a labor contract that is fair and equitable for us and our co-workers who are UNAP members."
