Nurse practitioners in Oklahoma are urging state lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow them to work independently, according to a KTUL report.
Here are four things to know about the legislation.
1. The nurses want lawmakers to pass HB 2841, which was authored by State Rep. Jon Echols (R).
2. The legislation would allow nurse practitioners to work without being involved in a supervision contract with a physician, according to the report.
3. Nurse practitioners told KTUL they have shelled out substantial fees for supervision contracts when little supervision is provided, and the independence would allow them to take care of patients in areas of the state that do not have physicians.
4. According to the Oklahoma State Legislature's website, HB 2841 was referred to the Oklahoma House Appropriations and Budget Health Subcommittee Feb. 2.
