Several nurses are seeking answers after they say they were fired from Brandenton, Fla.-based MCR Health, the Bradenton Herald reported March 14.
MCR Health, which operates more than 48 healthcare centers and 19 pharmacies, declined to share details about the terminations, including the reasoning behind them and the number of affected workers. A spokesperson for the health system told Becker's: "We do thank you for your inquiry. However, there is no information to be released."
Several nurses told the Bradenton Herald that the number of affected workers could be at least 20.
"Most were upper-level employees," Kendra Cannon, who received a termination letter while working as a charge nurse, told the publication.
Ms. Cannon, who is Black, also told the publication that she was not given a reason for her termination and contends she was "targeted and discriminated against due to favoritism and because of my ethnicity."
Winnie Williams, RN, who worked for MCR Health for a decade, said workers got called in individually in January and that the termination letter she received did not provide a reason for the termination.
In November, the health system board of directors voted to remove President and CEO Patrick Carnegie; he filed a lawsuit alleging breach of contract and violations of the state's whistleblower laws. MCR Health did not provide a reason for his removal, according to the Bradenton Herald.
