Norwalk Hospital employees vote for unionization: 3 things to know

Norwalk (Conn.) Hospital employees voted Nov. 19 in favor of union representation, according to a report from The Hour.

Here are three things to know about the vote.

1. Employees voted 263-to-140 in favor of joining Connecticut Health Care Associates, the same union that has represented Norwalk Hospital registered nurses for more than three decades.

2. The vote comes about three months after members of the engineering department at Norwalk Hospital voted in favor of joining CHCA, and about one month after more than 180 Norwalk Hospital employees petitioned the NLRB to hold an election to have CHCA represent them in negotiations with Danbury-based Western Connecticut Health Network and Norwalk Hospital, according to the report.

3. Employees now eligible for representation include those in environmental services, patient care technicians, unit secretaries, records office employees and patient registrars.
