Contract negotiations are underway between Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health and union workers, according to an Aug. 3 report from WIVB.
Bargaining talks are taking place five days a week on a new contract with Kaleida Healthcare Network for 6,300 workers. Both parties agree that significant progress has been made in recent months. However, according to a statement released by Kaleida Health, staffing ratios remain a critical issue.
"The negotiating teams have made a lot of progress over the last several months. We will continue our work to achieve a new master agreement that enhances benefits for all employees and restores us as the market leader in wages to help retain and recruit employees," the statement said.
Union members are also advocating with the state to increase funding for Kaleida Health. They say that would allow the healthcare system to meet their demands and offer a fair contract.
The most recent contract extension expired at the end of July, according to local ABC affiliate WKBW.
