HMA Cuts Back Employee Benefits

Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates is cutting some benefits for its 42,000 U.S. employees, according to a News-Press report.

The cuts to benefits include freezing vacation accruals through September, reducing 401k matching by 0.5 percent and postponing merit raises until 2014, according to the report.

HMA officials said the cuts were made in response to sequester cuts to Medicare payments, according to the report. HMA has 71 hospitals spread across 15 states.
