Valencia, Calif.-based Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and the union representing its registered nurses have reached a three-year contract to avert a strike, according to The Santa Clarita Valley Proclaimer.
The agreement covers 650 nurses represented by the California Nurses Association.
It includes staffing language related to legally mandated meal and rest breaks, as well as protections against workplace violence to nurses, according to a union news release. It also includes raises from 9 percent up to as much as 20 percent over the life of the contract.
Nurses and hospital management will create an ad hoc committee to ensure nurses receive their legally mandated meals and breaks, union leaders said.
The contract comes days after nurses issued a strike notice.
