The proportion of healthcare workers who were represented by unions and members of unions declined from 2015 to 2016, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The number of people employed as healthcare practitioners or in technical occupations grew from 8,142,000 in 2015 to 8,459,000 in 2016, but the proportion of those workers who were represented by a union or a member of one fell in that time period.
In 2015, 13 percent of healthcare practitioner and technical occupations were members of unions, and 14.5 percent were represented by unions.
In 2016, it fell to 12.4 percent as members of unions and 14.2 percent as represented by unions.
That is still higher than the overall union membership rate in the U.S., which sat at 10.7 percent in 2016, a 0.4 percentage point drop from 2015.
