Members of the Service Employees International Union local 521 in San Jose, Calif., which include 911 dispatchers and employees at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, say a strike is "imminent."
According to SEIU, 911 dispatchers are being forced to work mandatory overtime due to a workforce shortage. Additionally, the union says job vacancies and healthcare personnel turnover "leave the county ill-prepared to meet the demands of healthcare reform."
Union members voted to authorize a strike earlier this month, according to a San Jose Inside report. The union will hold a press conference Thursday, presumably to announce its strike plans.
