The healthcare industry contributed 47,000 of the overall 280,000 new jobs that were added in the U.S. last month, according to the most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
This is an increase from April's numbers, when healthcare added 45,200 jobs. Over the past year, healthcare has added 408,000 jobs.
Here is how parts of the healthcare industry fared in May.
1. Hospital employment grew by 15,700.
2. Ambulatory care services added the most jobs, with 27,600. That number includes physician offices (5,900), home health care services (8,400) and outpatient care centers (4,500).
3. Nursing and residential care facilities added 3,500 jobs.
