Nurses at Philadelphia-based Hahnemann University Hospital voted Jan. 20 to join the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, according to The Inquirer.
Here are three things to know about the vote.
1. Nurses voted 516 -117 in favor of joining the union.
2. The vote did not mark the first attempt at unionizing nurses at Hahnemann, which is owned by Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare and affiliated with the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. An attempt in unionizing Hahnemann nurses in 2010 was unsuccessful, according to The Inquirer.
3. With this week's vote, Hahnemann nurses are some of the latest Pennsylvania healthcare workers to join PASNAP. More than 330 registered nurses at Drexel Hill, Pa.-based Delaware County Memorial Hospital also recently voted to join the union.
