Following the closure of Pacific Alliance Medical Center in Los Angeles and the laying off of 638 employees, Goodwill Southern California is providing career services to the laid off employees at no cost.
Becker's Hospital Review spoke with Goodwill Southern California's Career Service Specialist Jennifer Vazquez about what the organization is doing for PAMC employees and how employees can reach out for help.
Here's what you should know:
1. GSC is providing the laid off employees help through the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act at no cost.
2. GSC will provide one-on-one career counseling as well as career development services, while also helping candidates with job search strategies and finding job leads.
3. GSC is holding a series of events to specifically help the laid off medical personnel. In collaboration with Los Angeles County, GSC will hold an event for nurses and nursing assistants Jan. 10. GSC and the county will also host a presentation, Jan. 17, on how support employees can apply for relevant jobs.
4. In addition to the career events, GSC partnered with a local college to leverage its network to help healthcare professionals find opportunities in the healthcare field.
5. GSC is also offering free career training in a number of areas, including medical assistant, nursing, medical billing and coding, phlebotomy, certified nursing assistant, human resources and management.
6. Ms. Vazquez said the organization has handled mass layoffs before and is ready to assist anyone affected by the closure of PAMC.
