This week, lawmakers in California will consider two bills intended to improve workplace safety in the state's hospitals. The bills are sponsored by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United.
One of the bills, Senate Bill 1299, would require hospitals, through California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board standards, to create workplace violence prevention plans. A similar bill was introduced in 2013 but floundered, according to the news release.
The other bill, Assembly Bill 2616, would make hospital workers who contract methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections eligible for worker's compensation.
Committee hearings for the bills will be held Thursday and Wednesday, respectively.
