Allegheny Valley Hospital workers vote for option to strike

Workers at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, Pa., voted Aug. 16 to authorize a possible strike, according to a TribLIVE report.

The vote covers about 600 registered nurses, aides, secretaries and other support staff represented by Service Employees International Union Healthcare Pennsylvania. It does not mean a walkout will take place. However, the union has the authority to issue a 10-day strike notice if necessary.

The hospital, which is part of Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network, has been in negotiations with the union since May. Both sides plan to return to the bargaining table Aug. 22, according to the report. The workers' contract expires Aug. 24.
