WKU files response to protests of sports medical complex deal

Bowling Green-based Western Kentucky University filed a response to a bid protest alleging it engaged in illegal, clandestine negotiations while it was accepting bids for a news sports medicine complex at the university, according to the Bowling Green Daily News.

WKONA filed a protest Sept. 16 alleging that because of the way the $22 million agreement between WKU and The Medical Center, also in Bowling Green, was handled, WKONA, along with other medical facilities in the area, had been excluded from competing for the project.

In WKU's response to the legal filing, officials acknowledged that WKONA, along with other organizations, filed the protest in an effort to maintain their lucrative business arrangements with the university. The response also said that WKU President Gary Ransdell told WKONA that the arrangement between the university and The Medical Center regarding a new sports complex has been terminated, as will the university's arrangement with the Bowling Green-based Graves-Gilbert Clinic to operate an on-campus health clinic, according to the article.

WKU officially pulled its agreement with The Medical Center in September.
