Board members of the Amarillo Bi-City-County Health District and hospital representatives from across West Texas have met to discuss a regional healthcare partnership for the northern Texas Panhandle, according to an Amarillo Globe-News report.
Discussions of a regional healthcare partnership were initiated after the Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Austin received federal approval to expand Medicaid managed care. According to the report, the most recent meeting centered on merging the medical region 16, which covers the Amarillo area, and medical region 12, which covers the Lubbock area, into one "super region." Representatives were elected to communicate this proposal to the city of Lubbock and the state of Texas
