Virginia (Minn.) Regional Medical Center's Hospital Commission has approved an affiliation with Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health, according to a Duluth News Tribune report.
Under the proposed affiliation, Virginia Regional would become a secondary hub of the health system, which means that Essentia's other Minnesota facilities in Hibbing, Chisholm, International Falls, Ely, Babbitt and Aurora would feed into the Virginia facility. The city of Virginia would continue to own the hospital, and Essentia would make lease payments that would be reinvested in capital improvements, according to the report.
The Virginia City Council still needs to approve the affiliation and is expected to vote sometime in July, according to the report.
