Yakima (Wash.) Valley Memorial Hospital is moving forward with an affiliation with Seattle-based Virginia Mason Medical Center, pending completion of a definitive agreement that must then be approved by both the Memorial Family of Services and Virginia Mason boards.
Here are three things to know about the proposed affiliation.
1. The organizations are pursuing the affiliation to maintain access to high-quality healthcare, improve access to specialty care, advance physician recruitment and expand financial, clinical and information systems resources.
2. The partnership also ensures that Yakima residents will continue to have access to the latest medicine, the Memorial board said.
3. The two organizations anticipate successful completion of a definitive agreement, which will outline how they will work together, in about 60 days. The final agreement may also require state and/or federal review and approval.
Yakima Valley and Virginia Mason signed a letter of intent to affiliate in October.
