The Vatican has approved Catholic-based Mercy Health System in Portland, Maine, to sell its assets to Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems based in Bangor, according to a report by The Forecaster. After discussions with Boston-based for-profit Steward Health Care System ended last year, Mercy signed a letter of intent to sell to EMHS in December and a definitive agreement in January. If state regulators approve the partners' certificate of need application, the transaction could be closed by September.
Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
