Elgin, Ill.-based Sherman Health has announced its intent to partner with Oak Brook, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care.
Sherman's board of directors voted Monday to sign a letter of intent with Advocate. According to the release, the health system considered more than a dozen partners, one of which was Cadence Health in Winfield, Ill.
Advocate Health is the largest health system in Illinois with 10 acute-care hospitals, the state's largest integrated children's network, five Level I trauma centers, two Level II trauma centers, the state's largest home healthcare company and more than 6,000 affiliated physicians.
In the next several months, Advocate and Sherman will carry out due diligence and begin planning the details of their potential integration. A formal closing date is expected between May and July of 2013, according to the release.
