Pittsburgh-based UPMC will acquire Sports Surgery Clinic, an independent hospital specializing in orthopedic surgery in Dublin, Ireland, according to a Jan. 14 news release.
Sports Surgery Clinic, a 101- bed hospital, will become part of UPMC's global network of orthopedic, sports medicine and rehabilitation facilities.
It will also become UPMC's fourth hospital in Ireland, joining UPMC Whitfield in Waterford, UPMC Kildare in Clane and UPMC Aut Even in Kilkenny, along with sports medicine and outreach facilities across the country.
"With the acquisition of the Sports Surgery Clinic, we will have the ability to expand our already trusted and high-quality care to more patients across Ireland and beyond," said Charles Bogosta, president of UPMC International, said in the release. "SSC will complement our existing network of orthopedic care in the U.S. and Europe and ensures that we can provide access to care for more patients, close to home."
The acquisition is subject to approval by Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. Terms of the deal are not being disclosed.
