UPenn Health System Strikes Alliance With Lancaster General

Lancaster (Pa.) General Health and University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia have created a "strategic alliance" to improve healthcare at both health systems.

The alliance is not a merger or acquisition. Officials said it is merely a partnership to align the systems' interests and collaborate on ways to improve patient health in the area.

Specifically, Lancaster General Health and UPHS will work together to improve care in oncology, trauma, cardiovascular care, genetics, neurosciences and several surgery subspecialties.

"With this new alliance, UPHS and LG Health will strengthen its already-successful collaborative efforts, while building new ones in the clinical, teaching and research space," said Ralph Muller, CEO of UPHS, in a news release. "Ultimately, the sharing of resources and best practices will improve health outcomes for all patients and identify new opportunities to innovate the increasing complex world of healthcare delivery."
