The University of Vermont Health Network, a four-hospital system based in Burlington, Vt., will expand its network by pursuing a formal affiliation with Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y.
Pending due diligence and regulatory approval, Alice Hyde Medical Center will become the fifth hospital in the The University of Vermont Health Network. The system already has two hospitals in Vermont located in Berlin and Burlington and two hospitals in New York located in Elizabethtown and Plattsburgh.
Under this new relationship, Alice Hyde will become UVM Health Network - Alice Hyde Medical Center while remaining a free standing hospital with its own board, management, workforce, licensure, medical staff and endowment, according to a news release. It will be subject to the network's oversight and have representation on the network's board.
"Becoming a part of The University of Vermont Health Network is a wonderful opportunity for Alice Hyde Medical Center and the thousands of North Country residents we serve," Alice Hyde Medical Center President and CEO Douglas F. DiVello, MPH, said in a statement. "For the past 18 years, Alice Hyde has been an affiliate of Fletcher Allen — now The University of Vermont Medical Center — and has seen the tremendous benefits of this collaboration. Formalizing and extending this partnership will expand our communities' access to high quality services closer to home."
The affiliation is expected to be finalized by the end of 2015.
