The community of Brockport, N.Y., will regain some healthcare services, as the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center acquired several assets of Lakeside Health System.
In April, Lakeside Health closed its 61-bed acute-care Lakeside Memorial Hospital due to financial troubles. However, URMC bought Lakeside Health's hospital facility, clinical practices and urgent care center in Spencerport, N.Y., and will transfer all of the entities to its Strong Memorial Hospital's license. The health system will be renamed URMC Strong West.
The deal still requires approval from New York's attorney general and supreme court, but URMC executives expect the transaction to close by the end of this month or early August.
URMC does not plan to reopen the hospital with inpatient beds. Instead, URMC will create an urgent care center at the Lakeside Memorial Hospital site and look to build a freestanding emergency department in Brockport early next year.
