University of Michigan Health, MidMichigan Health Explore Affiliation

MidMichigan Health and the University of Michigan Health System have announced plans for a clinical and business affiliation.

The affiliation would expand on an already existing partnership for cancer services and align the systems' clinical services and physicians. The affiliation would also result in expedited patient transfers and care coordination should MidMichigan patients need to seek care at UMHS, which is based in Ann Arbor.

Physicians from Midland, Mich.-based MidMichigan Health — which serves 14 counties — have demonstrated a preference for UMHS specialty care, according to the release, and MidMichigan physicians have a history of working closely with UMHS specialists.

"UMHS is internationally known for quality and the depth of care they provide," said MidMichigan physician J. Christopher Hough, MD. "MidMichigan Health has an excellent base of primary care providers and physician specialists. However, we need to improve our access to care locally, in this region, so more people can get the care they need without enduring the difficulty of frequent and extended travel while ill."
