Officials at the University of Louisville (Ky.) Hospital have extended the Sept. 28 request for proposals deadline in their search for a partner, according to a Business First report.
In February, the hospital issued an RFP for a partner, hoping to combat financial challenges and make improvements. The hospital had been part of a three-way merger last year between Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare in Louisville and St. Joseph Health System in Lexington, Ky., which is owned by Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives. However, Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear blocked the merger between the public and Catholic organizations, leaving U of L Hospital without a partner.
According to the report, hospital President and CEO Jim Taylor and U of L Executive Vice President for Health Affairs David Dunn, MD, issued a joint statement citing the need for additional negotiations, which may delay a partnership decision until the end of the year. "We continue to have productive and meaningful dialogue with all the respondents and thank them for their dedication as we work through the technical details required in the negotiations," both leaders said in the statement.
