University of Louisville Hospital Continues Search for Partner

The board of directors of Louisville, Ky.-based University Medical Center, the governing entity of University of Louisville Hospital, has issued a new proposal request for potential partners, according to a Courier-Journal report.

The proposal aims to attract interest from healthcare entities with statewide networks and capital resources to stabilize the University’s finances while maintaining the hospital’s teaching and indigent-care missions.

The Louisville Hospital had hoped to merge with Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare in Louisville and St. Joseph Health System in Lexington. The partnership was rejected by Kentucky Governor Steve BeShear due to legal and policy problems. Jewish, St. Mary's and St. Joseph's continued the merger, forming KentuckyOne Health, without University Hospital.
