Officials from Chapel Hill-based University of North Carolina Health Care System have told Pardee Hospital's board of directors that the Hendersonville, N.C., community hospital will not survive unless it joins a larger healthcare system, according to a Times-News report.
Publicly-owned Pardee has been in talks with UNC over managerial services for several weeks. If an agreement formed, Pardee would utilize UNC Health's access to discounted equipment and supply rates, information technology and administrative expertise. The affiliation would also allow the small hospital to expand clinical research and coordinate care.
Gary Park, president of UNC Hospitals, said the "future of smaller, independent hospitals is at risk," according to the report. He also said Pardee is losing market share.
