UCSF, Children's Hospital Oakland Reach Partnership Agreement

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco and Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland (Calif.) have completed their affiliation.

The affiliation — effective Jan. 1 — positions the hospitals to integrate research activities, retain and attract physicians, improve their financial performance and provide leadership in adopting, measuring and publishing quality and patient safety best practices, according to a news release. UCSF Medical Center — which encompasses the children's hospital — and Children's Oakland originally signed a letter of intent in November 2012 to form an affiliation.

The affiliation creates the largest network of children’s medical providers in northern California. The two hospitals combined offer more than 65 pediatric specialties and subspecialties such as cardiology, neurology, orthopedics and diabetes care.

"The affiliation of these two well-regarded children's hospitals is good news for children and their families," said Diana S. Dooley, secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, in the release. "Together, they will serve children throughout northern California who need the state-of-the-art care they can provide."
