University of Chicago Medicine, Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the University of Illinois at Chicago will team up to conduct clinical trials to improve outcomes for patients with life-threatening emergencies, according to Chicago Tonight.
The institutions will pool their resources and patients through the Strategies to Innovate EmeRgENcy Care Clinical Trials network, a nationwide network of emergency departments led by 11 health facilities.
Through the SIREN network, the three institutions will have access to expanded patient populations, including minority and underserved patients typically left out of clinical trials, according to the report.
The National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Defense and the NIH's National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences will fund the SIREN clinical trials.
