UC San Diego Health System and Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., are pursing a partnership deal, according to The Desert Sun.
UC San Diego's board has approved signing a letter of intent for the two organizations to affiliate, according to the report.
Initially, cancer care, HIV and AIDS, and graduate medical education would be the main focus of the collaboration.
A UC San Diego Health System spokesman confirmed to The Desert Sun the organization is exploring a potential clinical and strategic affiliation with Eisenhower. However, the system declined to release any additional details of the potential partnership, according to the report.
