UC San Diego Health to assume operations of community hospital

Tri-City Healthcare District has selected UC San Diego Health as its future healthcare partner, with the two organizations developing a joint powers agreement.

Under the agreement, UC San Diego Health, a 799-bed academic system, will provide administrative, clinical and operational management for all healthcare services with input and guidance from a diverse community board.

The partnership aims to create a nine-member community board, comprised of two appointees from the district board, two members from the Tri-City medical staff and five members appointed by the UC San Diego Health executive governing board.

The community board would provide recommendations to UC San Diego Health on strategic, operational and financial decisions relevant to its growth strategies. Providers would participate in an open medical staff.

UC San Diego Health plans to expand specialty programs at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Calif., including services for pregnancy and gynecology, cancer, cardiovascular, neurosurgical and behavioral health.

Labor and delivery is a focal point of the future agreement, which aims to re-establish the service, improve the capabilities of the hospital and position the campus as a destination center for pregnancy care in the area .

"We look forward to collaborating with the Tri-City team to stabilize, expand and transform access to the hospitals' services and facilities so that all patients throughout North County can continue to access high-quality care, locally," Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health, said.
